Joseph's Republic

A dose of some good old-fashioned musings of a non-practicing bachelor boy about the meaning of wife... and a host of life's other nosey questions.

off to a bad start?

The Inquirer Publications gave me a 2009 desk calendar quite early.. i figured that must be a good sign. The second calendar I received, however, was from a hospital, upon checkout... well, that pretty sums up my family's so called long vacation.

BLOG ADVISORY

I'm currently re-editing this template. My apologies to my 4 loyal readers (myself included) for this rather amusing inconvenience.

Btw, the anchor texts "News" "Reviews" and "Opinions" are just test-links.

Reality Blogging

This site has been online since June 2, 1999 but only today will I actually start posting anything.

I have not yet really decided though what to make of these pages in terms of content and everything but I guess blogging about blogging should be part of it. That's what I call "reality blogging".

Life, unlike fiction, anyway, happens in real-time. Therefore, reality blogging, whatever it means, must, at the very least, reflect this fluidity in structure.

This is just great. I don't know where I really want to go from here but I actually have a perfectly clear plan of how to get there. It is summed up in these three words: just go, creep!

What do you suggest I blog about?

MISSION: TIME & CHANCE

In the Bible, TIME & CHANCE was described in the same vein as a happening or event that carries with it the gravity of fate. Its almost equated as all the fortunes and misfortunes apportioned to each and every man and woman who ever walks the earth.

In Ecclesiastes 9:11 we read...
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

I find it particularyly interesting because it challeneges the dominant western logic of cause and effect The western mind casually think of history, biography and the human condition in general in mechanistic terms. There was simply no room for divine intervention nor divine ordinance. Then we wonder why despite the promising technological accomplishments of the last fifty years or so, history keeps repeating itself.

Was Ecclesiastes right all along? Are we living in a universe ruled by a counter-intuitive physics called by King Solomon as TIME & CHANCE ?
